Latrobe Nursery ~ Lifestyle Gardens
Lifestyle Gardens is a nursery in Latrobe that specialises in more unusual plants and products. A product that we find particularly interesting, and very relevant to the developing climatic situation, is Hydrocell, a soil enhancer, aerator and growth promoter. We believe this product to be extremely beneficial to all growing industries, including forestry and public works ie. parks gardens and reserves maintenance and development. As well as the home domestic garden.(For more direct information please visit the Fytogreen website here).
This product causes faster, stronger and healthier plant growth, holds water and nutrients for much longer in the soil, makes water and nutrients readily available to plants under any conditions, so improving drought tolerance.
It improves drainage and aeration in clay soils, holds water in sandy soils, and extends the intervals between irrigation applications. Cuts watering time & labour by at least 50%. It also improves root establishment and development, and is suitable for use with grey water systems. Trials both on the mainland and in Tasmania have shown this to be a very beneficial product in today's changing climate, with the ability to save much time and money for any one involvement in horticulture.
Features of the foam are:
- Environmentally friendly
- Biodegradable
- Sterile / Inert

MORE INFORMATION:
Q. How do I save water with Hydrocell?
A. As Hydrocell improves the water-holding ability of the
soil or potting mix, you'll use up to 50% less water, depending on
conditions and plant species, and growth will be healthier.
Q. Can I use Hydrocell with hard-to-wet soil?
A. Yes. Hydrocell is a perfect solution to hard-to-wet
soils. When water comes into contact with Hydrocell, it is absorbed
instantly and then slowly releases to the soil, reducing run-off loss.
Q. Will I need less fertiliser?
A. Yes. Nutrients are absorbed into the open cell structure
of Hydrocell and are gradually released, rather than washing away, so 25%
less fertiliser is needed.
Q. Will my plants become waterlogged?
A. No. Hydrocell always retains air space within it's foam
structure, preventing waterlogging and rotting of plant roots. This air
space also reduces soil compaction in the root zone.
Q. Is Hydrocell biodegradable and environmentally safe?
A. Yes. Hydrocell breaks down into carbon and nitrogen in the soil over a
10 year period. Because it is sterile and inert, Hydrocell will not change
the chemical balance (eg. the pH) of your soil. Hydrocell is also perfectly
safe to use in your vegetable garden.
Q. How much Hydrocell do I need to use?
A. For best results, use 1 part Hydrocell to 2 parts soil or potting mix.
Always blend thoroughly.
